Our aim is to RECRUIT, PROMOTE, and ENCOURAGE girl bodyboarders all over Australia, and create fun COMPETITION and COACHING for girls to enjoy.

  • RECRUIT: Enlist new girls into competition, regardless of age or ability.
  • How: Through advertising in newspapers, Riptide mag, school newsletters, myspace, bodyboarding websites, female spectators at contests, mums and word of mouth.
  • PROMOTE: Further promote women's bodyboarding in Australia.
  • How: Have media releases and a photographer at each contest. Release regular WBA newsletters. Put interviews and articles in Riptide/Movement, and in girls' magazines such as Dolly, Girlfriend, and Frankie. Organise photo and video shoots for the girls. Create a girls bodyboarding DVD. WBA website –through www.fluidzone.com Get the bodyboard girls on TV; such as Fuel TV, NBN news, and Today show.
  • ENCOURAGE: Encourage girls to become physically active by participating in bodyboarding, and create a support network for the girls.
  • How: Hold social gatherings for WBA members; DVD nights, BBQ's. Encourage girls at club contests. Help develop and maintain friendships between the bodyboarding girls. WBA website will contain information for girls who want to start bodyboarding, rider profiles, a how-to section, info for club and national contests and etc.. Encourage more girls through the WBA newsletter. Help find sponsors for individual girls.
  • COMPETITION: Increase the number of girls in competition, make competing fun, and raise the level of women's bodyboarding in Australia.
  • How: Organise club competitions for girls of all levels to compete in, with prizes for the winners at each event. Hold flipper races. Encourage girls to compete in Australian Tour and State and National titles. Organise a Women's World Tour event in NSW to be held before or after the Ingles Pro.
  • COACHING: Hold girls coaching clinics
  • How: In conjunction with club and National contests. Have the top girls in Aussie bodyboarding give the new girls tips and lessons. Organise extra coaching through schools. Some of the girls will need to acquire full coaching qualifications.

  • WBA Competitors Divisions
  • A Division: For girls who are just learning how to bodyboard
  • AA Division: For girls who have can do some moves but not standard of AAA
  • AAA Division: For girls who can do spins, rolls and more advanced manoeuvres on waves. Every WBA club contest will have A, AA, and AAA divisions to compete in. There will also be other fun competitions held at each event, such as the flipper race.
